Positive Drive Swim Fin
Facilitating Natural Biomechanics
The Positive Drive Fin is a collaboration between Kevin McCarthy of LeadTeam Development and myself, aimed at addressing the problem of conventional swim fins that restrict natural foot motion. Our goal was to create a fin that would provide the forward propulsion of a larger fin, but with a smaller, more versatile blade. Our design incorporates an elliptical blade that transfers load evenly around the foot and decreases hydrodynamic drag when performing various swim motions. A contoured foot pocket with smooth surfacing provides comfort and reduced drag. The fin is a molded composite of two types of rubber and underwent rigorous testing to achieve optimal blade orientation and thickness. As a result, the fin has become popular among competitive swimmers, body surfers, and others.
